Legal Costs

How are Legal Costs Calculated

Clients are entitled to have a clear price structure when selecting legal services. Our costs are flexible and aim to cater for our clients varying needs. Often confusion arises because the basis of costs is not clearly explained to clients.

Legal costs are generally made up of two components:

  • Professional fees- this is the price paid for the firm to act and offer advice in your matter; and
  • Disbursements- are the costs such as photocopying, stamp duty, registration fees, medico legal reports, PEXA fees, court costs, barristers fees other government charges

The final account will be the addition of the above components plus the GST if applicable.

We provide a full costs disclosure in accordance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law so that there are no surprises and will provide regular updates if costs change.

Billing Arrangements

To assist our clients we offer the following types of billing arrangements:

  • Fixed or capped fees for certain types of work
  • Blended hourly rates (ie a flat fee across the firm for all fee earners, regardless of seniority); and
  • Retainer arrangements

Our flexible approach provides certainty so that clients can effectively manage their legal costs whilst maintaining the delivery of timely legal advice and representation.
